If you are a Dubiel, or a friend of a Dubiel, this site is
for you. The purpose of Dubiel-ancestry.com is to clarify a
few basic matters concerning the origin of the name, share a
few stories, and see what develops. This site is yours, so
feel free to make suggestions regarding links or other
additions. What you see here is a humble beginning. We’ll
add as time goes on.
I started dabbling in genealogy at least thirty-five years
ago, doing a bit here and a bit there. Since that time the
study has become more popular and the number of information
sites has grown astronomically. The obvious tool, of course,
is the internet. This site isn’t going to duplicate basic
information about genealogy or list sites that any of us can
get by a quick search of the net. Along the way, like it or
not, we will probably mention a source or two.
One basic source that I have found useful is Polish Roots by
Rosemary A. Chorzempa (Baltimore, MD: Genealogical
Publishing Co., Inc., 1993.). The book was in its ninth
printing in 2003. The book includes an historical and
cultural overview as well as genealogical sources.
